IMPORTANT UPDATE - COVID 19 Impacts to SCARS - NEW ADOPTION PROCESS. Appointment based adoptions ONLY!!

We have had to make a few changes to our adoption process... on top of all of the standard, hand washing, surface disinfecting, social distancing, no entry of you have flu symptoms or have returned from overseas or from a Hotspot area in the last 14 days.

ADOPTIONS DURING COVID 19
We are practicing social distancing at SCARS for the health and safety of our Staff, Volunteers and the Community. Thank you for your patience as we do our best to help you find your new family member. To reduce your time onsite and the number of people you need to be in contact with, we have implemented the following steps:
1. Please complete your adoption questionnaire at home and email it thru to office@sippycreek.com.au prior to ringing for an appointment

2. Call us on 5494 5275 to make an appointment time and advise us of which animal you would like to meet. 

Our phones operate between 10am and 5pm, Tuesday through Sunday.
3. Please limit your visiting group to two people. If you have children and would like them to meet the animal before adopting, we can accommodate a rotation of a small number of visitors.
4. When you arrive, please give reception a call and they will come out to let you in.

5. Only one person to enter the office to complete the paperwork please
6. Please use eftpos for all payments
We are also placing our donations bins outside the gates so you don’t need to enter. Thank you so much for continuing to support us through this time.😊

KEY POINTS IF ADOPTING A DOG -

- A property check prior to adoption may be necessary.

- Renting via a real estate agent? - Please bring in your current rental agreement approving your having a pet. If you do not have approval on your current lease, please contact your real estate agent to get written permission (can be an email) from the landlord to have a pet on the premises. You may also need Body Corporate approval.

- Private rental? - If you are renting under a private agreement (i.e. no formal lease), please provide written permission from the landlord + a copy of the landlord's rates (to show proof of ownership)

- Home owner?  - Please bring a copy of your current rates notice or water bill to show proof of ownership. If you have just moved in and don't yet have a rates notice, a copy of some settlement letter with your name and address will be sufficient

- Unit or Townhouse?  - Please find out if your unit or townhouse has a body corp - if so, you will need to provide a copy of the body corp's approval to have a pet. This applies even if you own your own home 

- Retirement villages - Please provide a copy of your unit agreement or village rules which allow a pet on the premises

- Other doggie friends and children need to meet any potential new dog friends. They will be introduced to each other under the supervision of our experienced dog volunteers.

Please note that although our website is updated frequently, there is a chance that the animal you may be interested in may have been adopted by the time you visit them on site, so the sooner you visit us, the sooner you may have a wonderful friend to take home with you.

EXTRA THINGS TO THINK ABOUT...

Things to consider that may happen over the next few years;
(the most common reasons people surrender or abandon their animals)

  • If you are renting, the next place you rent, or the next place after that may not allow animals – most landlords don’t allow animals
  • Could your or your family’s circumstances require a potential move to another area or state, and will the pet be able to go with you?
  • Are you planning to have children soon, and don’t want to risk animals with children?
  • Will your current animals and children get on with another pet?
  • Are you able to exercise a dog daily, and not leave it alone regularly?
  • Is your yard well fenced as per council regulations, and will a dog be secure and safe in your property? Is your property large enough?
  • Do you have pet hair allergies?
  • Can you afford the cost of owning a pet? Annual vaccinations, worming, registration, food and inevitable vet bills.
